NA trucks double productivity
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 9/15/1999
When Lindab Group, a large heating duct manufacturer in Europe, needed help increasing the efficiency of its storage area and the productivity of its workers, it turned to an industrial truck supplier for its materials handling solution.Fitting more into the same amount of space was Lindab's primary challenge. Aaron Dereski, industrial engineer for Lindab, explains: "We needed to reduce our aisle space and knew we would need to bring in some new equipment to handle the new configuration."
Narrow aisle turret trucks provided the ideal solution, helping Lindab use previously unusable space. Besides operating in narrow aisles, the lift height of the turret truck chosen enables the company to reach the upper levels of its 30-ft pallet racking--wasted space previously.
The truck's man-up feature also helps increase productivity. Before, one worker had to drive the industrial vehicle Lindab used, one worker was in the bucket.
"Our operators now handle twice as many pallets as they did before," says Dereski.
Available in 3,000 and 4,000 lb lift capacities, the man-up turret trucks can go as high as 40 ft, work in aisles as narrow as 66 in., can be rail- or wire-guided. Operator position is flexible-sitting or standing. Features such as a pressure sensitive "operator in the truck" switch, optimally positioned steering wheel, and butterfly control handles enhance worker safety and comfort.
