Smoother lift and tilt ups productivity

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 9/15/1999

A foam handling operation needed a lifting device that could be raised and tilted in order to receive thin sheets of cut foam from a slitter process. A requirement of the system was that it needed to be automatic and become an integral aspect of the plant's daily operations.

The solution turned out to be a 4,000 lb capacity lift and tilt table. The new table was designed so that it would receive each sheet and lower automatically to be ready for the next sheet to slide on. The device lowers directly to the ground for easy loading and unloading with a standard pallet truck.

The table was also equipped with an automatic height gauge. This gauge "sees" when a sheet is slid onto the table and then lowers the table slightly to get ready for the next sheet. When the table is full-with sheets stacked up to 60 in. high, the process stops, and the unit lowers flush to the ground for unloading.

Unloading is easy because the table has a lowered height of less than 1 in. and is designed with a beveled edge for easy, roll-on loading.

In addition, the system is powered by a 5 hp, 3-phase, 480 volt motor, and the lifting motion is activated by precision-built hydraulic cylinders with chrome plated shafts for smooth operation. The table is equipped with push button operation but is also available in a foot pedal variety for those who prefer that mode of operation.

The zero-low lift and tilt table is designed with ergonomics in mind. The table puts work within easy reach of the worker for increased productivity and safety while minimizing fatigue. The unit virtually eliminates bending, reaching, stretching, and lifting, thereby reducing worker fatigue and the risk of back injuries. The table also tilts up to 45 degrees for ease of load handling by a wide range of workers.

Lift and tilt tables come in a variety of models to fit the application. Manual, battery, air, and gas-powered units are available. Remote control is also an option.
