Going once, going twice...
You can shop for bar code scanners, printers, and more at TheBarCodeBroker.com.

You've heard about Internet auction sites like eBay, where people buy and sell everything from antiques to Beanie Babies. Well, now you can go online to bid on bar code scanners, label printers, and more. The place to visit is a site called TheBarCodeBroker.com (www.thebarcodebroker.com).As we pointed out in our web report on materials handling web pages ("And now...direct from our cyberspace newsroom," July 1999, pg. 43), most industry sites focus on education, not e-commerce. TheBarCodeBroker.com is one of the few exceptions-and it's the only materials handling-related auction site we know of.
TheBarCodeBroker.com tries to make it easy for first-time buyers to get their feet wet. According to its User's Guide, the company inspects all used merchandise before shipping it to the buyer, and products can be returned within two business days of receipt. Buyers pay no fee to purchase used equipment. (The seller pays a 15% commission on sold items.)
The site also offers new equipment, systems, and maintenance services. And if you're not partial to the thrill of the bid, you can buy or sell used equipment through an "equipment wanted" ad.
Are there other materials handling e-commerce and auction sites out there? We want to know. Please drop me a line at ms@cahners.com and tell me about your experiences buying or selling equipment on the web.
