Newsletter for AS/RS
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 9/1/1999
Material Handling Industry's product section for automated storage/retrieval system (AS/RS) technology has launched a twice-yearly publication, AS/RS Newsletter. The July/August issue will be followed by a second issue scheduled for January 2000.Executives from member companies of the section have contributed to the launch issue with commentary. Here's a viewpoint, for example, from HK Systems' Paul Gines: "Today's AS/RS equipment uses significantly fewer parts, requires less maintenance, uses space-age technology, and moves with Porsche-like performance," he suggests, compared to systems of a few years ago.
Carousel and vertical lift technology will be covered in the newsletter's broad definition of AS/RS technology. Diamond Phoenix president Larry Strayhorn details how the range of carousel applications has widened in an article in the first newsletter. For example, items "traditionally sorted by tilt trays and bomb bay sorters can be managed more efficiently, in less space and with less capital investment with carousel sortation technology, achieving over 1,000 pieces per hour," Strayhorn maintains.
