Hershey to be on-time for holidays
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 10/1/1999
Despite rumors that there will be a shortage of Hershey's candy by the time Halloween is upon us, Hershey's officials want to make it clear that warehousing and order fulfillment operations will soon be back on track."We have a plan in place that will address our order backlog situation that currently exists," says company spokesperson Mike Kinney. "Every trick-or-treater including their parents will be able to enjoy their favorite candy this year."
The rumors stem from an announcement from Hershey that the company would miss earnings per share expectations for the third quarter and fiscal year 1999. Problems encountered in the July startup of new business systems in the areas of warehousing, fulfillment, and customer service are mainly to blame.
According to Kinney, the order back-log is owed primarily to the timing of the corporate wide system startup. July is Hershey's peak distribution time.
