Beefing up e-business in 2000 and beyond

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 10/1/1999

E-business hasn't been bad, but it hasn't been that good so far. That's one finding from the 1999 E-Business Survey of consulting firm PRTM; the survey was cosponsored by Sales & Marketing Management magazine. PRTM survey leader Scott Campbell says companies will be beefing up their activities in the next 18 to 24 months, however. And they will spend more dollars on Internet activities. Revenues will rise, too. Only 3% got more than 20% of sales from the Web in 1998. By 2000, a third expect that much e-business.

The survey also suggests one impact on the supply chain: the sales cycle should improve by managing and communicating order status and shipment information. Two-thirds (66%) of companies said these benefits would come from e-business.
