Hold on to your seat as we all move faster
By Gary Forger -- Modern Materials Handling, 10/1/1999
There's a new book out and the title says it all. Faster. With that one word, you really don't have to read the book to feel you know all too well what it's all about. Who isn't moving faster as we close in on the new millennium? You should know that the redesigned Modern Materials Handling has been built for speed too. This is more than a restyled magazine. MMH has been reinvented with your lack of time in mind. We still want you to spend 15 minutes a month with us. But now you can get so much more information in those 15 minutes.
Who knows, all that extra input may land you on our new big, bold, cover. Don't underestimate the possibilities. We doubt this month's cover man, Tony Santarelli of Mikasa, ever expected to be front and center on MMH. But he is. Nearly as big as life. You see, people and equipment have always been on our covers. But we think the new look celebrates the partnership of people and materials handling systems.
The quick read that starts with our cover lines moves from First (a new department) to Last Word (yet another new addition). You'll also want to visit the expanded News & Trends department with its shorter stories and more informational graphics.
Also up front is a new column about one of the hottest topics today-supply chain. For you and other supply chain professionals with materials handling responsibilities, this one will probably be a must read every month.
In the features, you'll find sharper headlines and more boxes with story summaries and even some called "Fast Facts". We've also added to our regular lineup an Information Technology report. This month we cover (surprise, surprise) supply chain software and the changes in these packages that are sure to benefit your operations.
Updated departments include Solutions with its direct hit materials handling answers for tough to solve problems. New and noteworthy is New Media and its coverage of Web, CD-ROM, and video resources. In addition, the catalog and product departments have been punched up too.
If you get the sense there's just plain more stuff in this issue, you're right. About 20% more. And this isn't just the case for the premier issue of the redesign. It's the new standard around here. You may even find that 15 minutes a month isn't enough anymore. You be the judge.
