Portable RF terminals world market zooms

Globally, there's a $1.8 billion rapidly growing business in portable radio frequency data collection terminals, according to market research by Venture Development Corp., Natick, MA. Growth from this 1998 total is expected to stay high, at annual rates of 16% to 18%, through 2002, says VDC. Symbol, Intermec, and Telxon all had double-digit shares of the 1998 global market (pie chart), while other vendors held single-digit shares. Among them are: Denso, 5%; LXE, 4%; Teklogix, 4%; Fujitsu-ICL, 4%; Hand Held Products, 3%; Unitech, 1%; and Percon, 1%.
