Spring-loaded casters
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 2/1/2000
Efficiency is the key to a new spring-loaded caster design. The caster protects delicate cargo from shock and vibration, reduces noise levels, and wear on floors while extending wheel and bearing life.To ensure the load is vertically aligned with the spring, the axle rides directly under the spring in the caster. A floating axle is used instead of a pivot-arm to transfer the spring action.
Wheel choices include rubber, polyurethane on iron, phenolic, and solid polyurethane. They range in size from 4x2 in. to 12x3 in. Depending on spring/wheel selection, capacities range from 125 to 1,630 lbs.
