The Metals Division of East Penn Manufacturing Company was recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for achieving STAR status in the agency's voluntary protection program (VVP).According to Dick Soulton, acting regional administrator for OSHA, only 600 U.S. companies out of more than six million have attained this status.
The OSHA VVP recognizes companies with outstanding commitments to maintaining safe work environments.
East Penn's Metals Division is comprised of its battery smelter, recycling facility, and oxide plant.
STAR status was determined after a week-long audit of East Penn's Metals Division. An OSHA VVP review team toured the company's plants, conducted interviews with employees and management, and reviewed East Penn's STAR application and safety and health program documentation. The company hopes to achieve full-site STAR status in the near future.
