e-commerce initiatives not a big deal for manufacturers

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 3/1/2000

Results of the fourth annual PulseMark survey say that manufacturers have been slow in implementing e-commerce. Only 44.6% are marketing product catalogs online.

Additionally, 78.6% of respondents have an existing, operational Web site while 63.3% use the Internet to purchase materials.

The survey also revealed that material expenditures account for the largest dollar percentage of the overall manufacturing cost structure. Overhead expenses are the second-largest category of manufacturing costs, while labor costs represent the smallest percentage.
