Software set to cut supply chain costs
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 3/1/2000
In an effort to improve retail distribution operations and better control inventory and costs, Service Merchandise, leading retailer of fine jewelry and home lifestyle products, will deploy Optum SCE series software. The software will be deployed in Service Merchandise's three forward serving distribution centers to support demand-driven replenishment across the supply chain. These DCs service all 223 Service Merchandise stores.
The software will automate complex materials handling, minimizing the number of "human touches" required to fulfill orders and accelerate the flow of merchandise. Service Merchandise will utilize advanced warehousing capabilities such as staging and shipping, cross docking/flow through, and outbound scanning.
"Service Merchandise is striving to revitalize its business and drive down operating costs," says Ken Brame, senior vice president and CIO of Service Merchandise. "Logistics is crucial to our business strategy. We needed a WMS that can continue to evolve with our changing practices."
