Site-seeing
Some materials handling sites we've discovered in our recent travels.

Back in December, we wrote about the e-commerce site TradeOut.com, which offers industrial equipment. Since then, we've received news of another such site, iMark.com.Like TradeOut, iMark is a marketplace for buying and selling used equipment. In fact, it has the largest selection we've seen on the Internet so far. There are 124 items listed for sale under Warehouse Material Handling Equipment and 2,723 under Packaging Equipment. Also offered are spare parts and services such as equipment leasing and transportation.
To provide users with a little guidance, iMark lets buyers and sellers rate one another. The ratings are a little hard to find, though (they're on each item's Lot Detail page under "Sale Information"). The sellers whose offerings we looked at had yet to be rated.
Elsewhere, the consulting firm Industrial Data & Information Inc. offers information about warehouse software on its web site, www.idii.com . Users can purchase white papers, request for proposal forms, books, and so forth. There are freebies, too: a software newsletter and free demo versions of applications from various vendors.
Speaking of freeware, one of the best sources we've found is BarCode 1 (www.adams1.com/pub/russadam/share.html ). BarCode 1 offers links to demo software and shareware from various sources. Included: labeling applications, bar code fonts, printer drivers, and a program that calculates bar code check digits. There also are applications for inventory tracking, order entry, and the like with built-in bar code features. Software for Macintosh, DOS, and UNIX are available, too.
Finally, if you're looking for shop-floor equipment such as work benches, bins, carts, shelving, mezzanines, pallets, lifting devices, or safety equipment, you might try Action Handling (www.actionhandling.com ). This Rockford, MI, dealer recently launched a web site to showcase the new and used equipment it offers for sale.
