Changes are afoot as Lyon turns 100
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 3/1/2001
At Lyon Metal Products, Aurora, Ill., there will be more than one reason to celebrate this year. Marking a century of business, Lyon will do some restructuring, resulting in a new affiliate, Lyon Workspace Products, LLC.
The new sales, marketing, and distribution company is a natural progression for Lyon, as workspace products is what Lyon has always focused on. Sales, manufacturing, distribution, and finance will move out to Romeoville, Ill., where a new state-of-the-art distribution center (DC), making a total of five for Lyon, will function as the affiliate's new corporate headquarters.
The overall functionality of this new cross-dock facility, scheduled to open early next month, "is essential to meet Lyon's continuing growth and commitments to our distributors and customers," says Robert Bodlund, president of Lyon.
The opening of the DC also enables Lyon to restructure its largest manufacturing facility in Montgomery, Ill. According to Bodlund, Lyon needed a manufacturing facility that supports their distribution, packaging, and make-to-order business.
The 700,000 square foot Montgomery facility will now concentrate on manufacturing and shipping standard lockers and storage products to Lyon's regional distribution centers. In addition, large engineered projects will be shipped from there to customers throughout North America and international markets.
