RVSI acquires Auto Image ID
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 3/1/2001
To strengthen its position in two-dimensional (2-D) direct-part marking, Robotic Vision Systems, Inc. (RVSI) has acquired Auto Image ID.
RVSI, Canton, Mass., manufactures vision-based semiconductor inspection and media transfer equipment. Auto Image ID, Cherry Hill, N.J., supplies digital imagers that read direct-part marks and 2-D bar codes.
Direct-part marking uses laser etching and dot peening to make an identification mark directly on an item's surface. This technology enables work-in-process tracking through the entire manufacturing cycle providing cost-effective work flow control and custom manufacturing. It is now being adopted worldwide in the electronics, automotive, and aerospace industries.
"We believe this is the year that direct-part marking moves into the mainstream of automatic identification," says Pat V. Costa, chairman and CEO of RVSI.
Auto Image ID will now operate within RVSI's Acuity CiMatrix Division in Canton. It's primary focus will be the penetration of new and existing markets for the scanning of 2-D Data Matrix codes that are directly marked on various surfaces including all types of metals, plastics, and silicon wafers.
