D/C Expo to focus on changing face of logistics
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 3/1/2001
Surviving Y2K was nothing compared to today's demands of slashing costs and improving delivery of product, especially in the world of e-commerce.
This year's Distribution/ Computer Expo & Seminar, May 22-24 at Chicago's Navy Pier, is designed to help companies maximize logistics throughput. Leading exhibitors will showcase computer systems and services for distribution and logistics, warehousing, supply chain management (SCM), e-commerce, and related logistics applications.
Two hundred and twenty exhibitors will occupy 66,000 square feet of space. Over 1,000 software packages, systems, and services will be on display for the 2,000 expected attendees.
"New and old technology will combine to create better fulfillment," says Tom Dulaney, president of CS Report, Inc., the show's producer.
Building on last year's interest in e-commerce operations, 27 of the 61 educational sessions will be devoted to the latest technologies and practices concerning e-business, e-commerce supply chain, and Internet-enabled logistics. Another 15 sessions will focus on SCM and execution. Additional tracks will feature warehousing (17 sessions), distribution and logistics (9 sessions), and transportation (9 sessions).
Jim Tompkins, president and founder of Tompkins and Associates, will give the first keynote presentation, focusing on his book, "No boundaries-moving beyond supply chain management," on Tuesday, May 22 at 8 a.m. He will discuss how to perform supply chain synthesis and detail the tools you need to make it happen.
