Are you in need of dependable employees?
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 1/1/2001
Finding and retaining dependable entry-level warehouse employees seems to be what everyone wants, according to a survey of the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC) members.
Approximately 820 WERC members were asked questions such as what recruitment activities are used, which one works the best, and what happens when WERC members' firms are unable to find the personnel they need.
The 16-pg report, "Are you finding the right warehouse employees?," indicates that over 78% of the 175 responding members named dependability as the top characteristic or skill sought in entry-level warehouse personnel. This also happens to be the skill considered most lacking.
Demand for entry-level employees is expected to increase over the next 12 mo., the report shows, with most firms taking 1-2 mo. to hire qualified personnel.
The report is designed to allow readers to compare their own business operation with the experiences of peers in the warehousing industry. The cost is $7.50 for WERC members and $15 dollars for non-members. To order a copy, call 630-990-0001 or visit www.werc.org .
