Know where your flame retardant pallets are?
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 5/1/2000
Container and Pallet Services (CAPS) announced that it will rent, lease, and manage a uniquely fire-retardant pallet made from GE Plastics material, integrated with CAPS' own automated tracking system.
Under the agreement, CAPS customers can realize the cost benefits of leasing or renting the high performance plastic pallets while also gaining access to tracking information that is expected to improve the materials handling process.
The standard 56 lb, 40 in. by 60 in. Grocery Manufacturer's Association pallet will be equipped with Caps-Trac, a proprietary Internet-based technology that provides tracking data in real-time. Every pallet is tagged with a bar code or radio frequency identification chip, allowing the system to collect, read, and track data throughout the pallet's journey.
With Caps-Trac, inventory maintains visibility throughout the supply chain, increasing productivity up to 50% and significantly reducing labor costs. "The durability and overall performance of the world's first UL-listed pallet not only helps protect shipments, it also virtually eliminates expensive repair and replacement of wooden pallets," says Adam Burke, marketing director for GE Plastics.
