John F. Klote was awarded the Modern Materials Handling magazine and Linda Lascara Honor Scholarship by the board of directors of the Material Handling Education Foundation, Inc. (MHEFI) for the 2000-2001 academic year.
The scholarship will be awarded in the entire sum of $3,000 to Virginia Tech in Klote's name to be used to cover direct educational costs. Klote, 26, has finished the second year of his master of manufacturing systems engineering, with a 3.85 GPA.
This past summer, he worked for a distribution center in North Carolina on a variety of projects ranging from dedicated storage to zone versus batch picking. He hopes to finish his coursework and thesis in the Fall of 2001, with an ultimate goal of becoming a professor of industrial engineering.
