Uniting needs, university research
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 8/1/2000
"If there was one objective in conducting a colloquium of this nature it was to eliminate possible disconnects between what is needed by the industry and the research work that is being performed by university-based researchers," said Dr. Richard Ward.
Ward, executive vice president/professional development, MHI, addressed some 60 professionals who gathered at the sixth biannual International Material Handling Research Colloquium.
Researchers, representing 20 universities from six countries, presented their latest research work related to the planning, design, and operation of materials handling equipment and systems.
Presentations ranged from new software and control tools, to the analysis of sortation and AGVS networks, to the design of order picking systems.
A complete proceeding of the colloquium is being prepared in the form of a printed book.
