Order from the palm of your hand

Ordering products online just got easier. SupplyScan, a mobile Internet-enabled device from GE Supply, scans bar codes and then sends the information directly to GE's Web site, to purchase electrical, voice, and data communication equipment and supplies.
GE expects the device will increase productivity by streamlining and automating the order placement process. It will also increase order accuracy by eliminating manual input and the potential for human error.
The device, built by Symbol Technologies (www.symbol.com), is a modified Palm Pilot with a built-in bar code scanner. AvantGo software facilitates the exchange of information between the device and the GE Web site, (www.gesupply.com).
To place an order, a new purchasing list first appears on the Palm Pilot. A user then scans the bar code of the item they want to buy and enters the desired quantity into the purchase order. Once the device is back in its cradle, the HotSync button automatically uploads the purchasing list to the GE Web site.
Once ready to finalize the order, the user can view the recently scanned purchasing list on the GE Web site and add the desired products to the shopping cart and checkout.
