Manage inventory, shipments, and orders

Managing the goods, shipments, and orders moving throughout the supply chain just got easier due to what is being called a conveyance management system (CMS). With CMS, users can access important information about item-level tracking of goods across the supply chain.
Savi Technology, a provider of logistics network management solutions, announced the addition of the CMS to their SmartChain logistics platform in a news conference with Modern Materials Handling . SmartChain allows shippers and logistics service providers to create and manage their own private logistics network.
"Everything moving through global supply chains moves on or in a conveyance whether it is an intermodal container or a pallet. Tracking the movement of every conveyance lets you gain visibility into the status of every item in the supply chain," explains Stephen Lambright, vice president, marketing.
"The CMS application is designed to assist an owner or leasor of large fleets of conveyances in managing their business more efficiently and does not require automatic data collection," says Lambright.
"It does require each conveyance to be uniquely identified- but this can be done through a unique identification number, a bar code, or automatically with radio frequency identification (RFID) or a global positioning system (GPS)," he adds.
