Eight steps to implementing lean

A new video series, "Value stream management," offers an eight-step method for creating and applying a systematic process for the implementation of lean manufacturing.

A unique feature of the video-training package is a simulation case study of Premiere Manufacturing Company, which is a composite of actual company experiences. As you work through each step in the video series, you will solidify your learning by applying the principles and tools to Premiere Manufacturing's lean initiative. The cost is $1,995.

Make motion control easy

You may well know the challenge of understanding and taking full advantage of motion control devices. However, a new glossary of motion control terms should help lessen the burden for others who have not had to learn the hard way.

The glossary defines 186 motion terms from absolute position to z-axis. Visit the Allen-Bradley Drives General Motion Control Web site for a copy of the glossary at www.ab.com/motion/images/glossary.pdf. Rockwell Automation

SCOR model updated

Version 5.0 of the Supply-Chain Operations Reference-model (SCOR) is now available. SCOR 5.0 reflects a number of changes.

Performance attributes were expanded from four to five by separating Flexibility and Responsiveness. As a result, accompanying metrics were reconciled throughout the model to ensure that they are measuring what they are intended to measure.

In addition, Return, the process just introduced in version 4.0, has been developed more completely. The new version is downloadable at www.supply-chain.org for member organizations.
