Here are some lift truck announcements that have recently crossed our editors

Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 12/1/2001

Extra comfort, higher performance

Added comfort and functional improvement are offered by a family of 8,000- to 11,000-pound capacity lift trucks, offered in gas, LP gas, and diesel engine configurations. The new open-step frame offers a user-friendly entry and exit to the operator's compartment. A contoured design seat allows the operator to easily shift and reposition. Also, the tilt steering column is infinitely adjustable within a 12-degree range of motion to maximize operator comfort. In addition, the hydrostatic steering system helps to provide effortless steering with no jolting kickbacks, resulting in exceptional control and reduced maintenance. Finally, the fingertip transmission control and the easy-to-reach hydraulic levers can improve productivity while helping to reduce operator fatigue.

Electric lift truck

Straight sideways movement, pivotal turns, swivel seats, and a separate independent drive system at both axles are features of an internal combustion Acroba lift truck. It promotes safer and fatigue-free operation and ease of handling even in difficult environmental conditions. An electric motor version, the Acroba-e, is now available too. It introduces a changeable three-level power mode for extended battery life and a reduction of maintenance time and cost.

Improved visibility

New to a line of 4,000- to 5,000-pound capacity counter-balanced lift trucks is the EZview mast that provides a less obstructed view for greater operator efficiency. The designs of the mast cross head, middle cross bars, and mast rails have expanded the viewing area of the EZview mast by 20% vertically and 21% horizontally.

Reach for increased productivity

Two new reach truck models offer rack-height select and tilt-position assists to further in-crease productivity. The rack- height select feature allows customers to preset up to 15 different rack heights to assist in locating forks at elevated positions. A tilt-position assist option allows the forklift to be set in a preprogrammed position. It is useful for setting the unloaded forks to a level condition when mast and fork deflection is not an issue. Other enhancements to the 5200 series include reinforced and adjustable battery gates, a polymer grip on the multi-task thumb wheel, and a new sealed switch and flexible wiring design.

Compact forklift

Well suited for applications in tight areas, the Namco line of sit-down forklift models 4, 8c, and 10c are just 31- to 36-inches wide and range in lifting capacity from 830 to 1,900 pounds. Model 4 weighs just 2,535 pounds with battery. Model 8c weighs 3,418 pounds while model 10c weighs 4,586 pounds, both with battery.

Forklift handles 6,000-pound loads

A 6,000-pound capacity forklift is available in diesel and LPG models. The MSI 30 offers hydrostatic drive for increased traction control and gradeability, as well as minimal maintenance. Its cab is designed for operator comfort and convenience. A compact chassis, tight turning radius, maneuverability, and excellent ground clearance provide versatility for working in confined indoor areas as well as outdoor semi-rough terrain conditions.

Designed for operator comfort

The GP-DB/EB series of 17,000 to 36,000-pound capacity lift trucks is designed for a variety of heavy-duty applications. The new ergo-cab features rounded front and rear-tempered glass for improved visibility, a seat side-arm rest, and a right-of-seat control/message console. Also, the operator seat is a full mechanical suspension. The forklifts are diesel-powered with pneumatic tires.

AC powered reach truck

Accelerated performance AC drive and lift motors enhance productivity, maximize energy efficiency, reduce the cost of operation, and lower the cost of moving pallet loads. By eliminating the requirement for drive and lift motor brushes, AC technology also reduces service requirements and parts costs.

Front wheel steer and drive forklift

A front-wheel steered forklift operates in aisles just 6- or 7-feet wide. The forklift's chassis doesn't turn in the aisle – only the 180-degree articulating front steering axle assembly and mast turn. The DV8r forklift provides counterbalance forklift performance with very narrow aisle storage density. Unobstructed side visibility is achieved.

Ease of operation and serviceability

Both operators and service technicians benefit from new enhancements to the Integrity 4,000- to 6,000-pound capacity lift truck series. The enhanced ZX motor controller expands status code storage and can be accessed with a handset or personal computer. A new easy opening, all-metal swing up battery cover and a slotted overhead guard allow for fast battery exchanges and inspections.

Electric lift truck

The SwingMast model SLT-30, a 36-volt electric very narrow aisle lift truck, has a capacity up to 3,000 pounds. This multifunctional unit can operate as a front-loading vehicle for general plant activity with palletized loads and as a side-carrier for long loads such as pipe and tubing. The lift truck can unload a transport vehicle as a conventional lift truck then swing the load 90 degrees to the side so it can maneuver unhindered in narrow aisles or restricted areas of the plant. Another feature is the vehicle's 22-inch side-shift capability that assists putaway in conventional rack as well as improves access to cantilever rack in aisles as narrow as 54 inches. Features also include three-wheel configuration, a three- or four-stage mast, and full mast tilt of 3 degrees forward and 4 degrees rear.

Improved operator comfort

A family of mid-size pneumatic tire 8,000- to 11,000- pound capacity gas, LP gas, and diesel forklifts now features improved operator comfort and increased performance reliability. The new open-step frame offers a user-friendly entry and exit to the operator's compartment. In addition, the new tilt steering column is infinitely adjustable within a 12-degree range of motion. Performance is improved with a hydrostatic steering system that provides increased control and reduced maintenance over the former drag-link steering system. Another improvement is the relocation of the air intake vent to increase the flow of clean air being delivered to the engine.

Improved stability teams with AC drive

A series of 8,000- to 12,000-pound capacity forklifts features an AC drive system with a system of active stability (SAS), and an electronic control system that can detect and respond to changes in forklift operation. The SAS maintains lift truck stability through two key systems: an active control rear stabilizer and an active mast function controller. The AC drive system features fast response to operating commands, precise power control, and compact components. A spacious operator compartment provides generous headroom and legroom to reduce operator fatigue. A planetary drive axle decreases the torsional stresses commonly experienced with power shifting, resulting in greater reliability, durability, and increased up time.
