Handling flat sheets – from plate glass to sheet steel – has always been one of the industry's toughest problems. Take a sheet of glass big enough to fit a department store window – you'd think that you'd really have to handle it with kid gloves. But, when you take a look at what's being done in the plate glass industry, you'll find them using fork trucks, cranes, hoists and all the other standard handling equipment that you'd expect to find in, say, the steel industry where they handle large sheets of steel.
