Wireless printing and computing for mobile workers

Intermec Technologies Corp. (800-934-3163, www.intermec.com) introduced two new wireless devices aimed at enabling today's mobile, flexible workforce inside and outside the warehouse and distribution center.
"Workers today need to take their solutions wherever the work is," said Daniel Arroyo, senior marketing communications manager. "Wireless solutions let you do that without the need to install cables."
The first new product is the addition of built-in 802.11b wireless connectivity to Intermec's industrial EasyCoder printers.
Designed for production facilities and flexible automation work cells that require a label printer to be relocated as needed, the radio is enclosed within the printer's steel case, minimizing the potential for damage.
The radio communicates with scanners, pen-based computers and other wireless devices on three different wireless LAN antenna configurations, allowing customers to choose the optimal design for clear transmission.
Intermec also introduced a new industrial handheld computer powered by Microsoft Windows CE .NET. The mobile computer offers both key pad and pen-based entry that allows information collected at the loading dock or in the warehouse to be easily integrated into a company's IT infrastructure.
The computer features an integrated bar code scanner, and can be equipped for communication across an 802.11b LAN inside the warehouse and distribution center or for WAN communications by field service personnel or transportation providers.
