Warehouse of the Future features interactive learning
Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 6/1/2002
The latest developments in materials handling, distribution, logistics and supply chain management will be discussed at the Warehouse of the Future Conference (WoF), to be held June 24-26 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. WoF, which is sponsored by The Distribution Business Management Association (DBM), grants attendees credits from a different university each year. Auburn University is the participating university this year.
WoF 2002 (www.dcenter.com) features many opportunities for interactive learning about warehouse-related topics, including a lineup of educational sessions and a working warehouse exhibit. The event includes more than 40 educational sessions in five tracks: materials handling and operation; software solutions and fulfillment technologies; distribution, logistics and transportation; supply chain strategies; and a new topic this year, government logistics and security.
A main attraction of the conference is a 100,000 square-foot interactive Learning Lab, designed to simulate an operational warehouse or distribution center. This exhibit features conveying systems, mezzanines, automatic guided vehicles, vertical storage systems, radio frequency terminals, sortation systems, and distribution and fulfillment software—all in action.
Another unique part of WoF 2002 is a three-day, six-part course on applied technology that will be held in the Learning Lab. This hands-on course will provide information on warehouse management systems, production line integration, and shipping and receiving mechanization.
For the first time, WoF will be co-located with the
Distribution & Fulfillment Expo.
