"Pallets Move the World," a stainless steel sculpture of a globe resting on a pallet, was dedicated last month in front of the William H. Sardo, Jr. Pallet and Container Research Laboratory on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Va.
"The sculpture acknowledges the relationship between Virginia Tech and the industry," says research lab Director Dr. Marshall White. "It also honors four individuals who have made an important contribution through the research and development of the pallet."
The 5-ton sculpture is dedicated to Thomas N. DePew, past president of the National Wooden Pallet and Container Association (NWPCA); William H. Sardo, Jr., past executive vice president of NWPCA; Dr. Walter B. Wallin, research scientist with the USDA Forest Service; and Dr. E. George Stern, Virginia Tech professor and the first director of the research lab.
