Number of warehouses continues to shrink
Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 12/1/2002
The number of warehouse facilities is still dropping, according to a survey by WERC, the Warehousing Education and Research Council (Oak Brook, IL). Most of that downsizing is being done by large companies. The poll includes replies from 139 companies, spanning manufacturing, retail, wholesale, public utilities and government. Not all the numbers headed down, however. There was a small number of new facilities, which tended to be large in size and located in the West or Mid-Atlantic regions.
