Data capture pioneers win awards

Two industry veterans won lifetime-achievement honors at the AIM awards reception, held during the Frontline Solutions event. Harry Clark won the Richard R. Dilling Award, and Sears Roebuck and Co. won the Don Percival Award. Clark, who is chairman of KTP Ltd., was cited for his lifelong contributions to advancing AIDC (automatic identification and data capture) technologies. As an employee, in 1984 he purchased KTP, and went on to lead the company to introduce the first bar code checking device to the U.K. Also at the show, AIM named Sears, Roebuck for the Percival Award, in honor of the company's applications of AIDC technologies. Over the past year, Sears has upgraded tens of thousands of network devices throughout its 900 stores, and now uses wireless handheld mobile computers for inventory, price change, merchandise pickup, receiving, and replenishment.
