Product Focus

Here are some new cubing and weighing products that have recently crossed our editors

Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 1/1/2003

Weigh small parts electronically

Bulk small-part inventory counts are made easier by the low-range Super II electronic counting scale, available in 2 and 5 kilogram capacities. The scale offers high accuracy and internal resolution set to 1 part in a million. The scale's database allows long-term storage of part numbers with their associated average piece weight, lot number, tare weight, total count and setpoints. A separate transaction log with a time/date stamp stores up to ten identification fields, enabling users to better monitor and track parts counting.

Shipping scales for low-weight parcels

Two models have been added to a shipping scale family for parcels up to 70 pounds. The lightweight, compact PS15 and PS30 scales are compatible with PC-based manifest shipping software programs and complement the company's larger PS60 (150-pound capacity) and PS90 (300-pound capacity) scales. The scales allow users to send commercial package weights electronically to controlling PC-manifest software.

High-speed cubing solution

Infrared emitter/receiver technology is used by an above-the-belt cubing system to gather parcel dimensions at conveyor speeds up to 600 feet per minute. The CubiScan 200-XIR interfaces directly to a computerized host or warehouse management system, and easily integrates with bar code scanning and scale equipment.

Conveyor belt scales

Two scales, the ArchWeigh SC/HP belt scale and the ArchWeigh HP belt scale, feature in-motion accuracy with dual-ended load cells. These patented load cells provide long-term repeatability without recalibration. They also allow the scales to take advantage of the natural tendency for the idler frame to twist in the direction of belt travel. By doing so, the frame equally forces one end of the load cell down and the other up, zeroing out the effects of the idler's movement. In turn, this allows an accurate measurement of the material on the belt.

Wireless weight data communications

Cellular weighing offers an efficient means to monitor, control and network multiple sensor inputs and outputs concurrently through wireless communications. Using radio frequency cellular technology, the MSI-9000 CellScale serves as a central controller that simultaneously communicates with one or more remote indicators, computers and/or auxiliary CellScale networks. Data display, collection and processing can be initiated and controlled from one or multiple locations. Real-time data transfer and control throughout the network provide users with accurate weighing and process information.

Capture dimensions in-motion

Length, width and height of parcels can be measured as they travel on a conveyor belt at speeds up to 600 feet per minute. The Qtrace dimensioning system, an integral part of the iQ180 camera-based, visual data acquisition system, mounts easily over a conveyor, requires no break in the belt and has no components at belt level. Qtrace, which employs laser doppler imaging, ensures that proper fees are charged based on the parcel dimensions and volume.

Package dimensioning

A compact, overhead dimensioning unit automatically measures the length, width, and height of packages as they move along a conveyor. The DM-3000, a self-contained unit, can easily be installed over an existing conveyor and requires no break in the conveyor belt. It uses a scanned, triangulated CCD camera/laser diode combination to capture the height profile of a package. Dimensions can be obtained at belt speeds up to 600 feet per minute.
