Device-level Ethernet takes off
Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 3/1/2003
While some key segments of the industrial automation market are having a tough time, device-level industrial Ethernet products are doing quite well. The worldwide market will enjoy an 84.1% compound annual growth rate over the next five years, says a new study from ARC Advisory Group . That will raise the market size from 286,800 nodes in 2002 to more than six million nodes by 2007. Such growth is driven by users who need to equip devices with Web-based access, and are opting for an Ethernet system with TCP/IP protocols. At the same time, mainline automation suppliers have launched a large number of product introductions over the past two years, says ARC senior analyst Harry Forbes.
