Diamond Phoenix, well known for its carousel systems, introduced a new multi-bay vertical lift module (VLM) at ProMat. Known as SMARTdepot, it features a unique cross-bay design that allows product housed in any storage bay to be delivered to an operator at any work station. That means an operator from one access point can easily access products in any of four columns. A tray queuing feature keeps workers busy and reduces wait time. The system stores and recalls operator preferences, such as language and tray height. Security and travel and extraction speeds are also adjustable, says company president Larry Strayhorn. "Users of this new system will have an opportunity to get high levels of productivity."
