New beam saves labels

Lift trucks zooming around a busy warehouse can often bump against exposed rack beams. That's a problem when they scrape bar code labels off those beams, preventing workers from using scanners to sort product. Now Frazier has a solution—the Label Beam. Priced and constructed the same as a standard beam, this 4-inch wide steel truss has thin ridges on each edge, like a flattened I-beam. That way, adhesive labels on the beam's face are slightly recessed, protected from any impact. That could save the $10,000 to $45,000 that an average company spends each year replacing labels, says Frazier's Jessica Hoagland.
