Independent rack inspection hits the U.S.

News from ProMat 2003

Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 3/1/2003

The collapse of a loaded rack full of pallets can destroy valuable

product, stop warehouse operations in their tracks, and, even worse, injure

workers. The solution is frequent inspections, and now a British firm is

bringing that service to America. SESS, Storage Equipment Safety Service Ltd., announced at ProMat new licensee offices in Chicago

and New York. Based on investigations of past rack collapse, two practices are

the main culprits, says Philip Pinel, founder and managing director; lift trucks

colliding with rack, and users altering rack structure on their own.
