3PLs on the move
Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 5/1/2003
If you suspect that outsourced or third-party logistics (3PL) providers are falling out of favor, you can't tell by the 3PLs themselves. Their trade association, International Warehouse Logistics Association (IWLA), found in a recent survey that 66% of members say that they are in a growth mode. In fact, 60% plan to hire new employees this year. Furthermore, 51% expect to be using more warehouse space in 2003 than 2002. Lest this segment look unrealistically optimistic, the IWLA reports that 40% of its members are concerned or very concerned about business this year, up from 29% last year.
