Focus on Palletizers

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 1/1/2004

Palletize only in-spec items

A line of robotic palletizers easily and automatically removes out-of-specification products without disrupting operations. Using data from in-line checkweighers and metal detectors, the equipment identifies specific packages that do not meet user-defined requirements. The robot then rejects the item by one of two methods. It either stacks the item on a separate reject pallet, or places it on a gravity conveyor for immediate inspection.

Handle 200 cases a minute

New to the high-speed 900 palletizer series are models capable of handling more than 200 cases a minute. Many configurable options are available, including a powered roller or modular plastic chain conveyor surface and an in-line pattern formation for gentle product handling. Palletizers in the series offer a variety of features such as stack-feed pallet dispensers with fork-type separators, programmable logic controllers, as well as bi-parting plates and articulate aprons.

Flexible palletizing

Flexible and powerful, a robotic palletizer manages single and multiple products, mixed loads and complex stacking patterns including overlapped bags. Fuji Ace Robot automatically places a pallet or slip-sheet and stacks products from a single location. It performs up to 26 cycles a minute and uses a linear track design to reduce power consumption.

Make product changeovers quickly

Available in six configurations, the LSP-7 high-infeed palletizer handles up to 40 cases a minute. Maximum load weight is 4,200 pounds. Its user-friendly programming and multi-product memory allow users to make fast product changeovers. Features include positive self-tracking infeed conveyor metering belts, simultaneous row formation and layer building and a power roller elevator bed.

Separate infeed for drums and pails

Drums and pails can be palletized on one machine with the 100-57DP automatic drum palletizer. Utilizing separate infeed conveyors, the system palletizes up to six drums a minute and up to 20 pails a minute. Various drum sizes and types including steel, plastic and fiber are accommodated. Robotic palletizer fits in limited space

Designed for high-speed, heavy-payload palletizing, the M-410iB robot handles cartons or bags weighing 220 pounds at rates of 20 cycles a minute for cartons and 27 for bags. Its four-axis, modular construction with an integrated mechanical and control unit makes the robot ideal in areas of limited floor space. A maximum reach of approximately 10 feet allows the robot to work on multiple lines at one time. Options include fork grippers for handling trays, pails and open-end cases as well as end-of-arm tooling for higher throughput applications.

Palletize 5,000 bags an hour

A family of modular palletizers handles between 600 and 5,000 bags an hour. Using a large variety of packing patterns, the Paletpac series processes bags weighing more than 100 pounds. Low-speed belt conveyors and gentle handling of the bags during push-off and calibration enable the palletizer to form layers of bags without accumulating pressure. A set of frequency controllers and servo drives ensure smooth operation of the machine.

Ideal for fragile products

To provide gentle case handling of fragile products, the von Gal SPLX MK II palletizer utilizes simplified mechanical systems and a device that cushions cases while turning them. The system's chain-driven live roller also decelerates the cases prior to contact with the vertical case stops. Any stacking pattern is possible including interlocking, column stack, overhung and underhung loads. Depending on case sizes, stacking patterns and configurations, the palletizer has a maximum speed of 50 cases a minute.

Palletizer manages four lines at a time

Working from as many as four infeed lines simultaneously, a robotic palletizer manages up to 880-pound loads. Each line can have either bags weighing between 50 and 100 pounds or boxes of any size. Fully automatic, the system places pallets, layer sheets and trays. Computer controls can be pre-programmed for each stock keeping unit.

Stage items for top productivity

The Robotic Palletizing Matrix (RPM) uses a single conveyor infeed to stage items for robotic palletizing by overhead gantry. Cases are conveyed and grouped with similar products within the gantry envelope. Once the quantity of staged product equals the number of cases required to build a unit load, the gantry end effector retrieves the cases and palletizes the load.

Palletize multiple configurations simultaneously

A gantry robotic order building system palletizes multiple configurations simultaneously while also building orders in load buffer locations or accumulation cells. The gantry design allows the system to be easily adapted to handle a variety of products including totes, cases and pails. The custom-designed end effector picks finished products from flow racks and product infeed conveyors.

Continuously feed cases to form layers

A case palletizer featuring an overhead pusher bar continuously feeds cases as pallet layers are formed. It is equipped with an Intelligent Control programmable logic controller and constructed of heavy-gauge steel.

Palletizer/de-palletizer is compact

The K-Bot is a four-axis, floor-level system that runs single and dual line applications and serves as both a palletizer and de-palletizer. It moves up to 175 pounds at a rate of 10 cycles a minute. A compact 62x104-inch footprint allows for pallet sizes of up to 48x48 inches and unit loads up to 72 inches high. Pre-defined pack patterns are programmed into the operator interface, enabling easy changeovers.
