D/C Expo 2004 highlights logistics technologies
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 4/1/2004
The 22nd annual Distribution/Computer Expo is only a month away. On May 19 and 20, Chicago's Navy Pier will host over 200 exhibitors at the largest tradeshow featuring the latest information technologies for the supply chain. Sponsored by Logistar, this year's exhibition, which is preceded by a day of conferences on the 18th, will allow attendees to evaluate and compare more than a thousand IT systems, services and products for logistics, distribution, transportation, warehousing and other applications.
D/C Expo 2004 will highlight radio frequency identification (RFID) technology throughout its exhibits, educational programs and product demonstrations. A full-day seminar devoted to RFID held on the 18th will include a workshop conducted by RedPrairie. Later in the week, one of six keynote presentations features an RFID panel organized by Kurt Salmon Associates.
Among the show's 34 seminar tracks, six keynote presentations and 25 special demonstrations, issues explored range from supply chain and warehouse management systems to distribution operations and automatic identification. A session organized by the U.S. Joint Forces Command will focus on current logistics initiatives from the Department of Defense. All events, except the seminars, are free to attendees.
"This year's focus on RFID and a marked increase in show attendance are clear reflections of a recovering economy and changes in the industry such as the Wal-Mart and Department of Defense initiatives," says Thomas Dulaney, president of the show's organizing company C.S. Report Inc.
