Flextronics to sell its simulation software
James Cooke -- Modern Materials Handling, 5/24/2004
Contract manufacturer Flextronics (858-550-1441, www.flextronics.com) will make available
its in-house supply chain simulation application, Sim-Flex, to the public.
The supply chain planning tool enables companies to optimize their supply chain networks, production plans, processes and materials flows. The software allows companies to undertake detailed analyses of their total supply networks and develop alternative scenarios. It can weigh trade offs such as total cost, service, quality and time. John Sedej, vice president of the SimFlex Group, said that companies can use the tool to determine the right distribution and transportation strategy.
Flextronics originally bought SimFlex three years ago to use in its operations. Development on the SimFlex application began in Europe in 1990.
Sedej said that application will be sold on a monthly subscription basis with the price determined by the number of users. The application can be sold as a site-license or an application service provider basis.
