Focus on Cubing & Weighing

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 6/1/2004

Weigh twice as many small packages

Suited for handling small packages, the Dual-Lane Sonic 350 Checkweigher performs in-motion weighing of semi-rigid or flexible and hard-to-handle products weighing from 10 grams to 10 kilograms with accuracies of up to +/- 0.1 gram. It weighs products of various shapes and sizes up to 18 inches in length at production rates of up to 400 units per minute. With a second parallel conveyor belt, the checkweigher weighs twice as many items and also weighs products from two different production lines on a common conveyor line.

Precise, flexible counting

Two counting scales – Viper Smart Count and Viper Monobloc Smart Count – provide powerful, flexible counting with precision. Suitable for a variety of counting applications, the Viper Smart Count incorporates strain gauge load cell technology with an internal resolution of 1 part in 3 million. The Monobloc system, which achieves an internal resolution of 1 part in 15 million, is ideal for counting very small pieces. The systems' internal database stores up to 1,500 records, including article name and number, average piece weight and tare weight. Bar code scanning and label printing can be integrated with the scales.

Display weights in six units

The Quick Count scale displays any of six weighing units – grams, ounces, pounds, troy ounces, pennyweights and carats – at the touch of a button. All count and weight information can be transmitted to a printer or computer via an RS232 serial data interface. The system's internal counting resolution is 1 part in 500,000. To ensure accuracy, the scale monitors the sampling process and notifies operators when the number of pieces is too small or underweight.

Low-profile bench scales

Available in seven different models, the 3700LP series of low-profile bench scales has a height of 3.2 inches or less, depending on the model. Weighing capacities range from 10 to 250 pounds with three sizes offered: 10 × 10, 14 × 14 and 18 × 18 inches. Features include a backlit six-digit LCD display with highly visible ½-inch characters, soft-touch Zero, units and print keys and an RS232 interface. Users can switch units of measurement between pounds, kilograms, grams and ounces, with two units displayed at a time.

Overhead crane features weight indicator

The MSI-9300 Porta-Weigh Plus RF digital crane scale provides a rugged weight indicator and data system for overhead crane applications. The system's circuitry is fully shock mounted and waterproof, making it suitable for indoor and outdoor applications. Large 2.1-inch ultra-bright LED digits are readable from up to 50 feet away. Wireless transmission of real-time weight and product information can be networked and communicated to the indicator at distances of up to 1,000 feet.

Weigh palletized and non-palletized shipments

A large-capacity dimensioning and weighing system instantly and accurately cubes and weighs palletized, single piece, multi-piece and crated shipments to assess shipping charges. With CubiScan 1000, operators verify shipments and process multiple open airbills and multi-piece shipments simultaneously. International and domestic 'dim weight' computations are accommodated. All collected data is stored in QbitWin, a Windows-based software package, and is easily transferred to a computerized host for processing.

Precisely count parts

Offering precise counting of parts, the DC-100 counting scale is ideal for inventory control, receiving parts verification and parts scanning applications. A bright, two-line dot matrix LCD display shows numeric measurements and text messaging for job sequencing. The scale stores more than 1,500 records and features an internal resolution of 1 million counts. Its internal battery with over 30 hours of use enables mobile counting applications.

Scales for static weighing and batching applications

Three weight indicators certified for legal-for-trade use are available for static weighing and simple batching applications including bench, floor and truck scales. The three systems – AD-4405, 4406 and 4407 – have internal and display resolutions of 40,000 counts. The 4405 drives up to four load cells and offers parts counting functionality. Featuring a 1-inch LCD display and 'C' type battery, the 4406 is designed for portable bench/floor scale applications. The 4407 has a rugged stainless steel housing to endure harsh environments.

Lift truck on-board check weighing

Designed for on-board check weighing, the SP-Series SkidWeigh Plus System can be installed on any lift truck, loader, lift table and other materials handling vehicle. System lifting capacity readout is unlimited and will not reduce the lift capacity of the equipment. SkidWeigh allows users to enter the waybill identification number, accumulate load weights under designated IDs, enter tare values and obtain printout tickets. Ticket re-ports include such information as date, time, operator ID, vehicle number and total weight.

Measure parcels on conveyors

Qtrace is a dimensioning system that measures length, width, height and volume of parcels as they travel on a conveyor belt at speeds up to 550 feet per minute. Its uses laser doppler imaging to provide 3D parcel dimension and volume information. The system also identifies when two parcels are touching each other as well as detect if parcels are side-by-side as they move along the conveyor belt. No break in the conveyor belt is required to mount the system overhead.
