Toyota does some heavy lifting
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 6/1/2004
Until now, Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A. (www.toyotaforklift.com) offered lift trucks with capacities only up to 15,500 pounds. But that's no longer the case since a deal with Lowry Industrial Trucks (www.lowrylift.com).
Lowry's full line of lift trucks is now available through Toyota's nationwide dealer network, extending the company's range to models with 40,000 pound capacities. The Lowry line starts at 18,000 pound capacity. All models from the Toronto-based manufacturer are internal combustion (IC) cushion tire lift trucks.
"More and more end users are requesting Toyota cushion tire lift trucks with capacities above 15,500 pounds," says Dr. Shankar Basu, president and CEO of TMHU. "We felt Toyota's involvement in this growing market trend is a necessary strategy for strengthening our number one position in the United States," adds Basu.
The larger capacity trucks are especially in demand by the paper, aluminum and steel coil, rigging, die handling and machinery moving industries.
