Sequence verification software eliminates errors
Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 7/1/2004
Suppliers shipping parts just-in-time and just-in-sequence to automotive assembly plants have almost no room for error. Components must be loaded and shipped in the right order for the cars coming down line. Automakers like GM will accept no more than 25 errors per million parts shipped.
A new sequence verification system (SVS) unveiled by RT Systems, Inc. (734-662-7099, www.rt-systems.com) supports error-free sequencing and warehouse management using bar code scanning and real-time wireless terminal communications. The SVS system is a turnkey solution that includes the software, hardware and training needed to implement an in-line vehicle sequencing program.
"Until now, suppliers shipping parts in sequence have had to create their own solutions in-house," said Larry Gray, president. "With this system, suppliers can scan a bar code and verify that the right part is placed in the right location in the right container."
The SVS system creates a real-time electronic link to receive sequence data from the assembly plant. The system then prints sequence labels, and supports and verifies picking, packing and trailer loading activities.
