ArchivesOne, one of the five largest records management companies in the United States, needed to upgrade its shelving system to comply with a standard passed by the National Fire Protection Association. That standard requires sprinklers for rack and shelving with 50% open surface area.
As a result, the company replaced its steel decking with a system that couples corrugated steel deck with wire decking panels and flanged holes for more open space. The decking is incorporated into an existing pallet rack system with shelving configured three deep by three high.
In addition to conforming to the new fire code requirement, the new decking has no protrusions to catch box surfaces so boxes of paper documents and files easily slide on and off without any damage. Because the decking is flush with the top of the step beam, ArchivesOne can adhere critical inventory labels to the front beam face for easy bar code scanning.
