Focus on Cranes, Monorails

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 12/1/2004

Transfer loads from crane to crane

Combining underslung cranes and overhead runway equipment, the Railmaster interlocking monorail system enables users to transfer loads from the crane to the runway or from crane to crane. Features include durable alloy steel construction and heavy-duty trolleys supporting up to 10,000 pounds. A range of manual and powered glide switches are designed for easy, smooth trolley operation on the monorail's curved track.

Monorail automatically replenishes workstations

The Space Carrier electrified monorail system combines speed, quiet operation and space efficiency for manufacturing and distribution operations. Operating from overhead tracks to save floor space, the system automatically replenishes automated buffers, assembly workstations and orderpicking flow racks. Two models are offered for handling loads up to 66 pounds and 110 pounds. Loop and shuttle track configurations provide layout flexibility, while conveyor, cage and clamp attachments handle a variety of load types.

Jib cranes range in size and design

A series of pillar, wall-mount and wall traveling jib cranes is offered in a wide range of sizes and designs to accommodate various requirements in terms of load capacity, swing range and outreach. All cranes feature a low jib deadweight and correspondingly large outreach and high load capacity. Available accessories include shaft extension, anchor bolts, template and pedestal for extending the pillar.

Electrified monorail system

An electrified monorail system consists of independently controlled carriers suspended on an overhead extruded aluminum track. Each carrier is powered by its own motor and is equipped with on-board logic for automatic control of speed and operation. The motorized carriers respond to programming and automated devices located along the conveyor path. Users can pre-program the service parameters for directing a trolley to remove itself to the maintenance spur when it is time for servicing.

Overhead bridge cranes with 5-ton capacity

Ideally suited for assembly and manufacturing, a series of overhead bridge cranes is available in I-beam and enclosed track formats. The various styles offered include top-running, under-hung, powered pneumatically, electrically or manually in single or dual speeds. The cranes, available in single and double girder designs, can be supported by a structure or be self-supporting.

End truck for 5-ton bridge crane applications

Suitable for 3- to 5-ton bridge crane applications, the C-Series Cleveland Tramrail end truck features highly durable wheels, gears and pinions. Its components are three times harder than similar I-beam crane parts, according to the supplier. An oversized yoke plate keeps channel frames and wheels parallel and square to the track surface for easy, consistent movement and longer track and component life. Drive rollers on the drive end also provide alignment and prevent damage.

Rider-type crane lifts up to 20,000 pounds

A self-propelled, rider-type, hydraulic crane has a telescopic boom length from 72 to 120 inches at angles up to 60 degrees. The unit's maximum lifting height is 15 feet with lift capacities ranging from 1,000 to 20,000 pounds. The boom swings 45 degrees left and right and is equipped with stowable outriggers. Lifting action as well as telescopic boom action and boom swing is hydraulically operated. Compact and versatile, the overall width of the unit is only 34 inches for easy passage through doorways, narrow aisles and between machinery.

Gantry cranes can be disassembled

Portable and lightweight, modular aluminum gantry cranes feature a knock-down design that allows them to be completely disassembled for storage and transportation. Only two operators are necessary to assemble and disassemble the cranes without using a forklift or overhead lifting device. The crane's aluminum construction prevents corrosion and rust, making it suitable for outdoor as well as indoor applications.

Crane stores paper rolls

Integrated into a computerized automated storage and recovery system, a crane is designed for safely handling paper rolls. Autostore is a crane-based system that uses suction lifters, an expanding core gripper and safety arms that rotate underneath each roll as it is lifted. Features include safety and anti-swing devices and on-board crane condition monitoring systems. The crane is controlled by the DynAC and DynAHoist Vector frequency controls. Rolls measuring up to 7 feet in diameter and weighing up to 9 tons are accommodated.

Moving carriers along monorail systems

Covering a range of capacities and travel speeds, MotoVeyors are drive units that propel hoists or load carriers along a monorail system. The 3HL model is a rugged monorail drive unit built to move heavy-duty loads under punishing requirements. Travel speeds range from 50 to 250 feet per minute with horsepowers of 3/4 to 5 HP. The compact model M-8 is designed for medium-duty service and is available in speeds of 70 and 125 fpm. For monorail systems without switches, the model 302 steel wheel drive unit is available in capacities ranging from 2 to 6 tons.
