Public warehousing – $25 billion plus

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 2/1/2005

The U.S. public warehousing industry market is now $25.7 billion, according to a study conducted by Armstrong & Associates. After-tax profitability is 2.7%. Public warehousing covered includes third-party logistics providers and other contract warehouse operators.

In addition, the study analyzed warehouse contracts, which typically vary from one to seven years. Only 9% of contracts were for one year while 14% were for more than five years.

According to the study, public warehousing pallet handling charges were found to vary regionally from $4.70 to $5.86. Package handling, storage and value-added services charges were also detailed. For a copy of the study call 800-525-3915 or visit www.3PLogistics.com.
