Is RFID data overload coming your way?
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 3/1/2005
Some companies already have too much data from using bar codes. And that situation will progressively get worse with the introduction of RFID technology, according to a study by research firm VDC.
According to respondents, many are experiencing problems completing RFID pilots due to the unprecedented influx of information suddenly available. Users have indicated both bar codes and RFID "generate an unprecedented amount of information that their legacy systems cannot easily handle." And many times, the RFID data itself is in question with some pilots producing a high volume of false negatives from RFID tags. Meanwhile, the reads continue, mounting up even more questionable data. "The method used to implement RFID systems can have a significant impact on these issues and the overall success of RFID deployment," says the study, which is available at www.vdc-corp.com.
