The Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI) has announced that its "Specification for the Design, Testing and Utilization of Industrial Steel Storage Racks" has been adopted as an American National Standard.

The standard, ANSI MH 16.1 – 2004, provides complete guidance for the design of industrial pallet racks, movable shelf racks and stacker racks made of cold-formed or hot-rolled steel members.
