Focus On Sortation

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 9/1/2005

Sortation for small items

The ProSort 131 is designed for high-speed sorting of products that may be too small to be sorted on conventional shoe sorters. Small fragile items or groups of items can be sorted easily with the equipment. Products are transported on high strength, anodized aluminum slats. At a predetermined location, divert shoes move diagonally across the conveyor to push the product onto a take-away line. Four widths are available, as are right- or left-hand diverts.

High-speed sorting

A high-speed sliding shoe sorter simultaneously sorts two parallel lines of totes and other items. Operating at speeds up to 600 feet per minute, the system sorts up to 450 items per minute. Sliding shoes are lined up in the middle of the slat conveyor. Electrical solenoid-operated divert switches interrupt the track at predetermined points to release the needed number of shoes to divert a given package. When items arrive at a sort point, the shoes divert them to either side of the sorter to a takeaway conveyor.

Sort with versatility

The 3D tilt tray sorter with linear motor drive is a high capacity system for sorting various kinds of goods. Small parcels, packages, delicate products such as glassware and grocery items, as well as heavy freight, boxes and baggage are safely conveyed and discharged to the right destination. The sorter employs a unique three-dimensional parabolic movement to discharge goods to predetermined destinations. The gentle handling of products and the directed lateral discharge path make it possible to use smaller, closely spaced destinations, allowing significant space savings.

Maximize flexibility

The ProSort SC belt driven sortation conveyors provide a reliable method of tracking packages to divert stations. Take-away spurs may be skatewheel or powered. The ProSort SC family of sorters provides reliable mid-range sortation solutions where flexibility is a plus. The system features a high-performance center drive with shaft-mounted gear motor and variable speed controller.

Affordable, reliable sorter

A high-speed pop-up wheel sorter is pre-engineered for affordability and reliability. The sorter contains powered wheels that rise up out of the conveyor to divert product off the main line at a predetermined angle of 30 degrees. The pop-up wheel diverter is incorporated with belt or LineFlow conveyor. Features include multiple diverts or single line configurations, conveyor speeds up to 300 feet per minute and a sort rate up to 80 cartons per minute. The sorter provides positive contact force to each package sorted.

Sort 90 cartons a minute

The AutoSort 5 pop-up wheel sorter uses three rows of skewed divert wheels to redirect packages and other items for precise sortation. Conveyor widths range from 24 to 36 inches. Top sortation throughput is 90 cartons per minute. Sort rate is dependent on carton size and weight and system design. Carton weight capacity ranges up to 75 pounds, depending on sort rate and system design.

Versatile sliding shoe

The IntelliSort 700 provides flexible sortation for a wide variety of products. The system incorporates sliding shoe technology, which can be provided with a tube or flat slat design. This high-speed sorter features heavy-duty construction and requires minimal maintenance. Features include low noise levels, 20 or 30 degree divert angles and internal fault detection.

Quadruple output with crossbelt

The QuadSorter, an ultra high-rate unit sorter, accommodates over 41,000 items per hour. This four-cells-per-carrier crossbelt sorter offers a flexible sort plan that does not require pre-sortation and significantly increases the throughput of traditional single-cell crossbelt sorters.

It offers traditional crossbelt sorter benefits with the added versatility of simultaneously handling small and large items more efficiently. Each of the belted quad-cell carriers operates independently, in tandem or in a synchronized mode. Sortation logic maximizes carrier loads by laterally transferring smaller items from one cell to another, making the original cell available for a new item.

Channeling productivity

For channeling and sorting larger items, a high-speed shoe sorter offers high reliability, quiet operation, and a flexible design to meet the most demanding sortation applications. The bi-directional shoes allow off-loading to both sides of the system with a gentle action that will not damage products. Designed to accurately move and sort a wide variety of products, the systems are available in a range of lengths, sorting pieces up to 67 inches long and weighing 110 pounds. Offering speeds up to 300 feet per minute, the shoe sorter can process 8,600 pieces per hour.
