Sun synchronizes its supply chain In today's marketplace, manufacturing is truly a global affair. A manufacturer is likely to use a combination of internal factories, low-cost suppliers in China and Malaysia, third-party logistics providers for both transportation and distribution as well as company-managed distribution facilities.
To do all of that at the lowest possible cost while still meeting customer service requirements, Sun Microsystems recently revamped its supply chain processes. The project included the development of an internal supply chain management and execution software system. The system synchronizes all of the activities required across the supply chain to manufacture, customize and deliver a product to a customer. Read More

Transportation management on the move Last Monday, September 19, Charles Phillips, president of Oracle was asked about the company's plans for supply chain management during Oracle OpenWorld, the software providers annual user conference in San Francisco.
The next day, Phillips made good on that prediction when Oracle announced plans to acquire G-Log, a privately held provider of logistics and transportation management systems and one of the leaders in the TMS space. Read More
