Future leaders in materials handling
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 10/1/2005
The results of the Material Handling Student Design Competition are in and a group of enterprising students from Virginia Tech has taken home the top prize. The contest is sponsored by the College-Industry Council on Material Handling Education (CICMHE) and Modern Materials Handling.
This year's contest saw groups of students from around the country applying their materials handling expertise to a fictional warehousing scenario in need of an improved layout. Up to the task were VT students Anna Maria Cherrez, Anat Elazari, Endri Lilaj and Rachel Mayo—advised by Dr. Russell D. Meller.
First prize in the contest is $1500 for the group and $500 for the department. Students from the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Louisville took second and third place honors, respectively.
